Welcome to our blog!

Hello everyone!
Now we have a blog!
Many of you have really enjoyed Astrid's presentation on blogging and the sharing of successful teaching activities in the last staff meeting!
So, why don't we use our first postings on this blog to share two successful experiences you had in class during this last academic year? If all of us put a posting, we will have lots of ideas to develop for our classes next year!
Have fun sharing!

    Using pictures in the classroom:

I have been working with pictures for a very log time and students always love them!!!!!!!!!!

A few ideas for different levels are:

    LOWER LEVELS:

Get pictures form magazines or internet of famous people.
Put students into groups and ask them to write a few sentences describing them ( not obvious ones!) the rest of the class have to guess who they are.
You can practice: simple present /describing someone/ comparing/ etc.

    INTERMEDIATE LEVELS

    A very successful activity.
Show students pictures of famous people and they tell you things they know about them: gossips, something about the past, present etc.
Show students one of the same pictures but this time tell them he is not the famous one but his twin brother. Nobody knows him. As a quick group activity all together you build up his life. It’s amazing how funny some comments can be.
Later students pick up one character they like or dislike and start writing their biographies.
This activity is particularly useful to practice simple past/past continuous and past perfect.

    ADVANCED LEVELS

One idea is to give students a few photos. The situation is that these famous people are all in the same party and they start talking. You were also invited to the party and you are a”gossip” journalist. You write down what they say.Next all groups of students swap conversations and they write down and article to be publish in the newspaper. Students love it!!!
The main idea is to practice reported speech.
